David and Chris - Bushy Business Gardens

Chris and David Stone

Maybe it was our parents, or our wider family, that got us hooked on gardens. Maybe it was the long summer evenings in the garden playing games, or the brief period we spent in Australia as children that instilled that indoor/ outdoor mentality. Whatever it was, it stuck. It got its claws in, and we couldn’t get free – thankfully!

Both David and I feel very fortunate that we can work within an industry that we feel so passionate about. It’s an industry full of wonderfully gifted people who are highly skilled, motivated, generous, and resourceful, and we love it.

It’s difficult for us to choose one thing about our day-to-day roles that we most enjoy; they are so varied. One day you can be in and out of meetings, the next designing, the next collecting plants or carrying out site visits. It really is the perfect mix; it certainly keeps us on our toes!

If you were to put a shovel to my head and make me, choose, I would have to say it’s the plants; visiting nurseries and gardens is like being a child at Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory.

For David it would be the design and seeing the ideas that he and the customer have worked on come to life!

It’s now 29 years since leaving Merrist Wood College and starting Bushy Business. In that time, we have worked for some amazing clients, with some tremendously clever staff, on some incredible projects.

As the business, has matured we have found our purpose and identified and instilled a culture that we feel sets us apart.

We truly care about our clients and the work we do for them. Every design we carry out, every slab we lay, every lawn we mow, every shrub we plant is more than just a financial transaction. The work we produce and the relationships we have with our clients and staff matter greatly.

We are a business that exists to improve your garden and therefore your enjoyment of it.

But we also want to improve the lives of our staff by giving them opportunities they would not get at another company. We look to include them in our thought process’ and encourage them to make their own decisions and take responsibility. Our staff should feel appreciated and worthy of the praise they receive and should be rewarded for their hard work.

We actively look for opportunities to train and further their knowledge, all in, proving how valued they are to us.

We believe that you, the client, will gain a superior service because you are looked after by a team who feel they are part of something bigger than just a job, they are part of an authentic business working with one another to deliver outstanding service and building something that we can all be proud of.
